Some of these newsletters are simple musings that strike me. Others can be boring legal pieces. I will leave the category of this post up to you.

I think that there are two important developments that will change our modern world in ways we did not anticipate. The first is Artificial Intelligence or AI; the second is Cryptocurrency. Not to sound like a boomer but this rise of AI is too eerily akin to a Terminator Rise of the Machines scenario for me. I have been studying the use of AI in a variety of areas to come to some conclusions. One, it is here to stay. Two, like all new things people over apply the technology to areas and circumstances that the technology was never intended. Third, the reliance on technology without the humanness of nuance, intuition and feeling will result in decisions that fail because in most things we need nuance, feeling and intuition. Computers and software are great but the reliance on cold calculations leads to cold outcomes. I think AI will become the new search engine and culminate in time saving data processing. The failures will come when we rely on AI completely leaving the human touch to a computer which can’t be human or touch.

The use of AI will leave us with the ultimate question in our new “modern” world – is this authentic? The determination of authenticity will be the new must have label. Art will need to be authenticated, writing will require authentication, and conversations will need authentication to confirm you are not speaking to an AI chat bot. The new challenge won’t be should I use AI but if the information I am relying on is authentically human.

Just so you know AI was not used in the drafting of this post.
