I like to think that certain situations are controllable but my experience has taught me that people are not controllable. Chalk it up to free will or entropy. I lean more toward entropy (inevitable social decline or degeneration).

Imagine we are spinning plates and you have to keep running back and forth to keep them spinning or inevitably they wobble and crash. I used to run back and forth assuming that I had a limitless ability to spin but the force of entropy is more disciplined than all of my efforts. I am in my 50s now and I find it harder to keep the various plates spinning. I just want the plates to cooperate while I watch them spinning with everything in rhythm all seamlessly working in harmony as I want them to do. That is crazy as I write it because reality is so far from that situation. Chaos seems to break out randomly with things such as illness, rogue actions, and limitless obstacles. No one would expect that you could spin plates in a moving car down a bumpy road but that is exactly what we determine to do as people.

One of the reasons we need lawyers is that the lawyer steps in when things get bumpy and establishes a level of smoothness for lack of a better word (that is the goal anyway but it rarely works). The lawyer can translate or communicate clarity when confusion exists. Ultimately if a judge gets involved a judicial order sets the plate on the table stopping the spinning. Many cases involve simple negotiations toward a mitigated settlement. Contracts require clarity that both parties agree to act toward an agreed solution. A will sets forth the wishes of the deceased so that confusion does not occur. Estate planning sets decisions out during life so that the plate can be set at the table in order for everyone to get served. Lawyers try to control the spinning plates or the lawyer tries to to stop them from spinning.

Maybe control is a fantasy but entropy is real.
