Indulge me this month for drafting another newsletter. Maybe it is the election or the fact my Yankees are going to the World Series but I wanted to share some thoughts on getting left behind.

The acronym FOMO was used in an article I was reading. I know most of you consider me hip, in the know or max rizz (dear Lord what is that) but I had to look it up. I have never had a conscious “fear of missing out.” I’m not immune because after I looked it up I started a list of the new things I am missing out on. Here are some: Branding, Insta, Twitter or X, crypto, followers, and social media. I am missing something to get me into the new culture. For example, we are working on updating the firm website with new photos and copy. Assume my behavior around this was toddler like with my assistant making excuses for me such as, “He won’t do that” or “He has had enough today” then she would give me a snack while shuttling me to my office away from the maddening crowd.

Admittedly, I am a poor marketer and anti-social. Ironically, my long term relationships are solid and my clients are immeasurably valuable to me. The problem is that if I am missing out on certain things it is inevitably because I am lacking a theatrical level of me focus. In a world of social ability, I am socially challenged. Clearly in this new age, I am deficient in social capital to the level that I feel confident I am missing out on everything new. I now recognize my undiagnosed FOMO. I guess I am willingly missing out on the narcissism of the modern age which means I am getting left behind. I think I am ok getting left behind if I have to I post, TiK or for boomer’s sake Tok.

My inclination is to stay away from social media keeping my focus on real estate, estate planning and other boring pursuits because I have FOMO -fear of me online.
